Meet the Maker

After several decades of constant life drawing I have worked out a method that keeps joy in the process and sustains me day to day. I start with a thick contour and then smudge it with a cloth after which I refine with a more definitive line and add shadow and highlights to finish. I have been exploring a multicolored line and add energy to the charcoal line with adjacent color often bright or complementary to the overall tone. I like to price my work affordably so that it is accessible to the widest possible audience. We need original art on our walls and in our lives. I am always honored when my drawings are chosen.

How it’s Made

I nearly always start my drawings with a thick outline of the figure and then wipe vigorously to create a mid-tone. I then refine the lines with charcoal and use various pastel colors to add shadow and highlights and finish with another line of bright colored pastel pencil.
